Bridgestone Celebrates 100 Years of Firestone in Australia

Bridgestone-owned tyre brand Firestone is this year celebrating a centenary of supplying Australian drivers with its globally-recognised products.

Australians have been driving on Firestone tyres since August, 1915 when the manufacturer – the Firestone Tyre and Rubber Company – was just 15 years old. Bridgestone Corporation went on to acquire the United States-based Company in 1988.

Bridgestone Australia Managing Director Andrew Moffatt said Firestone’s maintained presence in Australia for the last 100 years was a great achievement for the brand. 

“We’re very proud to have Firestone, a trusted tyre brand which has now been in Australia for a century,” Mr Moffatt said.

“Firestone products are designed to deliver superior handling and a quiet and comfortable ride, while also offering better value. They’re great all-round tyres and the fact they’ve been part of the Australian market for 100 years is a testament to that.”

Mr Moffatt said Bridgestone and Firestone branded products are built on many of the same principles.

Like Bridgestone, Firestone has an extensive racing pedigree through its involvement in motorsport – beginning with the inaugural Indianapolis 500 being won on Firestone tyres and continuing today in many race events throughout the world.

More importantly though, Mr Moffatt said they deliver on safety.

“Firestone has a reputation for keeping drivers and their families safe on the road – a requirement for all Bridgestone tyres,” he said.

“A century ago, Firestone tyres were known for having peace of mind built in and that’s something we’re proud to say is still a major feature.”

The Firestone range currently offered by Bridgestone Australia includes the TZ700 for passenger cars, the Destination range for SUVs and 4x4s in both All Terrain (A/T) and Highway Terrain (LE-02) patterns as well as the CV4000 for vans, utes and Light Trucks. Additionally, there is a range of tyres specifically designed for trucks and buses.
