Bridgestone Hits the Green

For the past five years, Bridgestone Australia has been hitting the green to raise vital funds for South Australian blood cancer patients. 

This year more than $20,000 was raised at the Leukaemia Foundation Golf Day, which will be put towards keeping the Foundation’s patient support system on the road, transporting patients to and from hospital for treatment.

With approximately 800 people in South Australia and the Northern Territory diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders every year, access to support services like this is extremely important.

“For 29 years now, Bridgestone has been supporting the Leukaemia Foundation. The important work they do to support blood cancer patients and their families is very close to our heart,” said Bridgestone Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Andrew Moffatt. 

“The annual Golf Day is a calendar highlight for many. It’s not only a great day out with friends, but importantly, it raises vital funds to support the Foundation’s important work right here in South Australia and in the Northern Territory.” 

“The funds raised this year will be put towards the Leukaemia Foundation’s Patient Transport Program, which alleviates one of the many burdens that blood cancer patients and their families encounter.”

A team of dedicated, trained volunteers drive patients to and from their medical, outpatient and other specialist appointments.

“During treatment, a patient's immune system is severely weakened, so catching public transport can be dangerous due to possible infections,” Mr Moffatt said.

“Having a way to get them around safely is a fundamental service and we at Bridgestone are passionate about making sure it can continue through fundraising and the supply of Patient Transport Vehicles.”

Twenty-nine teams, including three from Bridgestone, took part in the annual Leukaemia Foundation Golf Day at Glenelg Golf Club on Friday, September 25.

A Bridgestone golf ball raffle raised $2,650, while ticket purchases and sponsorship of the event brought the fundraising total to $20,090.

Bridgestone helping light up the road to a blood cancer free future

This month, Bridgestone is also supporting the Leukaemia Foundation through sales of special Light the Night blue valve caps. Bridgestone stores across Australia are selling the caps for just $3 for a set of four, with all proceeds to be put towards a $54,000 research grant, enabling a talented scientist to continue the important work of finding a cure for blood cancer.
