Brave Bridgestone Bandag Highway Guardian Recipient Receives Further Recognition

Brad Morrison – the inaugural recipient of the Bridgestone Bandag Highway Guardian award ‑ has received further recognition for his rescue of a 10-month-old girl from a burning car.
On Thursday, March 17, Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove announced the Australian Bravery Decorations list, with Brad receiving a Bravery Medal as part of these awards.
“We’re very pleased to hear that Brad’s brave and selfless act has been further recognised with a prestigious Bravery Medal,” Bridgestone Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Andrew Moffatt said.
“We certainly believed his actions were worthy of recognition so it’s great to see that others have shared this view. We extend our congratulations to Brad for this new award.”
The Bridgestone Bandag Highway Guardian award honours the great community service performed by professional truck drivers who go above and beyond the call of duty to assist those around them during the course of their normal work.
In November 2014, Brad Morrison came upon the scene of a tragic accident on the Cunningham Highway near Aratula which had left a young mother unconscious and both her and her baby trapped in a burning car.
Brad was able to get through the flames, smoke and fuel surrounding the scene to rescue the 10 month old girl from the back seat. An explosion occurred shortly afterwards. Sadly, the mother could not be rescued.
“Brad’s actions and his endeavour to help reflect everything that the Bridgestone Bandag Highway Guardian award stands for,” Mr Moffatt said.
“His bravery in the face of extreme danger spoke volumes, not only for Brad himself but also for the trucking community in general.”
“We would like to encourage those in the industry and the general community to nominate people like Brad for the Bridgestone Bandag Highway Guardian award. That way we can continue to acknowledge the many great people in the trucking industry doing great things.”
