Bridgestone Lights its Lanterns for Leukaemia

Bridgestone Australia once again helped shine a light on blood cancer this October, with more than 140 employees participating in the Leukaemia Foundation’s annual series of ‘Light the Night’ twilight walks.

Bridgestone is the Principal Partner of Light the Night – an important symbolic event where participants can choose to walk with different coloured lanterns to represent hope, remember a loved one or symbolise their own journey with blood cancer. 

Andrew Moffatt, Managing Director of Bridgestone Australia and New Zealand, said Light the Night is always highly anticipated by Bridgestone employees.

“Every year, the Leukaemia Foundation delivers a wonderful event through Light the Night and this year was no different,” he said.

“It’s always a poignant and special evening and provides a great opportunity for the community to come together in a meaningful way for a very important cause.”

Throughout the year, members of the extended Bridgestone family take part in a wide range of the Leukaemia Foundation’s fundraising initiatives – from hosting shave events to participating in fun runs and more.

In addition to sponsoring the twilight walks, Bridgestone’s retail stores have been selling special Light the Night blue valve caps.  

“Our blue valve caps are an extension of the Light the Night idea and are a great way for the community to get involved if they couldn’t make it to one of the walks,” Mr Moffatt said.

“We’re encouraging people to wear their blue caps with pride to light up the night – and the road – in support of a fantastic cause.”

With the funds raised through the sales of blue valve caps, Bridgestone supports critical research into the causes, treatment and care of people living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders.

Last year’s sales helped fund a research project by Dr Colm Keane of the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute, who is investigating how the immune system protects people from lymphoma and contributes to some people being cured of this disease.
